V300

I just bought a new cell phone. A Motorola V300. I found a pretty good deal on Amazon so I didn’t have to pay much for it. Well, if I managed to get all the rebates back that is. I really hate mail-in rebates. It’s either I forgot to send them out or they never send me back the checks. Unfortunately I have no choice if I want to get a new phone without giving up an arm and a leg. In any case I like the new phone and the new service seems to be better with clearer reception. They said the phone is capable of using mp3 files as ringtones, but I haven’t get a chance to try it yet. I need to buy an USB cable in order to connect the phone to my computer. AND WHY THE HECK THIS CABLE HAS TO COST $35??? I think Motorola is trying to rip people off here. How much does it cost to make that cable anyway, 5 bucks may be? I also need to buy the software seperately, which is $29. I think the cable and software should’ve been included with the phone. Not only Motorola is trying to rip people off, it also gives the wireless carriers an opportunity to get people to download ringtones and send pictures, which costs about a buck and 25 cents respectively, instead of transferring them from your own computer.

I don’t feel like paying $60+ for the cable and software. I’ll see if I could find a non-OEM cable and borrow the software from someone. I want to use a theme from R.O.D. TV as my ringtone. I have the mp3 and I simply need to re-encode it to a lower bitrate and transfer it to the phone somehow.
